Draft Solar PV Standards

SANS10142-1-2 Update – 2023

As at October 2023 the SANS10142-1-2 standard has as yet not been published.

The Working Group resumed activities on the document earlier in 2023 and have had 3 meetings to date.

At the moment the debate is around whether the standard has value in industry as it should be possible to make minor alterations to the SANS10142-1 wiring code in order to cover industry related issues. Most of the other factors and principles related to solar PV installations and standards are covered in normative standards already included into SANS10142-1. We will be posting updates as information becomes available.

 

Other Applicable standards and documents

  • SANS60264-7-712 covers wiring, safety, and general design and installation principles for solar PV systems
    • Available for purchase from the SABS website
  • NRS097 covers inverter performance criteria
    • The range of NRS documents are available from Eskom. Although the NRS range of documents are considered to not be compulsory standards, some municipalities may require the NRS requirements through the use of municipal by-laws. Inverters that do not comply with NRS performance criteria may under certain conditions and in certain municipal regions still be used, but the municipality needs to be approached in order to validate inverter performance and operational criteria.
